In brief
Lovay Williams was 27, a single mother, and found dead in her own apartment. Her boyfriend now faces a murder charge. Domestic violence rarely arrives without warning signs, and a child was in the room when this one ended in death. Originally reported by ABC7 New York.
An arrest on 156th Street

Tiliek Thompson, 41, was charged with killing 27-year-old Lovay Williams in front of her 7-year-old daughter in Washington Heights.
Shouts outside the precinct

Police walked Thompson out of the 33 Precinct on Saturday night. Williams' relatives yelled at him as he passed and had to be held back by a barricade.
Found dead at home

Williams was discovered unconscious in her apartment on 156th Street the weekend before, with trauma to her face and neck. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
They had been dating

Relatives say Williams and Thompson were in a relationship, which puts the killing squarely in the pattern advocates spend their careers trying to interrupt.
Her father's fury

Standing among loved ones who called the violence senseless, Williams' father had no interest in measured language.
“He's the devil. Anytime you put your hands on a woman, you a piece of garbage.”
The signs we miss

Domestic violence activists joined the vigil. Stephanie Mcgraw, who founded WARM, said the warning signs are there to be read before it gets this far.
“It's a silent killer that is killing women on the regular and it's the signs we need to understand”
The bottom line
Domestic violence rarely arrives without warning signs, and a child was in the room when this one ended in death.
