Fire erupts on Bowery rooftop

A fire broke out on a rooftop deck at 324 Bowery in NoHo around noon on Thursday, sending flames and heavy smoke into the air between Bleecker and East 2nd streets.
Propane tank likely sparked blaze
Authorities recovered propane tanks from the scene, and restaurant workers believe a propane tank ignited on the wooden rooftop deck, which then spread the flames.
“For what I know, everything started with a propane tank.”
Restaurant workers evacuate quickly
First-floor restaurant workers evacuated immediately after learning about the fire, with one worker describing the chaotic scene as firefighters arrived on the scene.
“It was crazy. I was not expecting that. When I got out, I saw all the firefighters come in here and everything happened so fast.”
Fire controlled within an hour

Firefighters brought the rooftop fire under control in about an hour, preventing it from spreading further through the building.
Neighboring business suffers water damage
Think Coffee was unaffected, but neighboring business Shifka sustained water damage from firefighting efforts, forcing them to cancel delivery orders.
“We had some orders, DoorDash orders, of course, we cannot make them right now because nobody's inside.”
