Crane down in Brickell

Just after 8 a.m. Monday, a crane collapsed at a construction site in Miami's upscale Brickell neighborhood. Four people ended up in the hospital.
A fire chief's relief

Miami Fire Chief Robert Hevia said he was thankful a call involving a collapsed crane and a burning car produced no deaths.
“When you look at the site, it's incredible”
She reversed just in time

A woman driving on the street next to the site saw the crane start to fall. She threw the car in reverse far enough to get out before the crane landed on it and set it alight.
“She was able to pull her car in reverse just slightly enough to be able to get out of the vehicle”
Two workers boxed in

The crane also came down on a storage container with two construction workers inside. One crew member cut them out of the metal box while another fought the fire.

Everyone accounted for

The two trapped workers and the operator who jumped clear went to a trauma center with minor injuries. The driver went to a different hospital, also minor. All other workers were accounted for.
Cause still unknown
Officials have not said why the piling rig tipped. It shares a base with a standard crane but drives columns deep into the ground to support big structures. The collapse is under investigation.
