Breach exposed thousands of records
The breach, first discovered in late September, targeted the FBI's job website managed by a third-party vendor and obtained thousands of personnel records from bureau employees.

In late September, the FBI notified employees that ShinyHunters obtained names, addresses, personal and work contact information, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and emergency contact information.

On Monday, the FBI removed a contracting company after determining the breach resulted from a security failure when a contractor failed to implement a security patch explicitly issued to secure the platform.
