Roman Palomares, president of the League of United Latin American Citizens, called for an independent investigation of Garces Perez's shooting. He noted that seventy-five days after Salgado's death in Houston, authorities still have not identified who fired the shot.

“Seventy-five days after Houston, Texas, we still do not know who pulled the trigger, and we're still counting.”
