In brief

Sikh trucker stabbed at rest stop
A Sikh truck driver was attacked from behind at the Bitter Creek rest stop on Interstate 80 in Wyoming early Sunday. He suffered stabs to the neck and chest plus over a dozen other cuts but survived.
Suspect arrested within hours
Police arrested Andrew Kris Bzdak in nearby Carbon County after a family at the rest area heard the attack and followed his truck to alert authorities. Video from the rest area captured the assault.
Motive remains unknown
Bzdak faces attempted murder charges punishable by up to life in prison, but police say they have zero motive for the attack. He remains jailed on one million dollars bond.
“We have zero motive”
Community fears anti-Sikh hatred
Sikh leaders say the attack cannot be separated from racism toward their community, fueled by deadly crashes involving Sikh truck drivers and anti-immigrant vitriol on social media and truck-driving forums.
“I never felt this kind of hate before.”
Deadly crashes sparked backlash
In August 2025, a Sikh truck driver's U-turn on a Florida turnpike killed three people. Last October, another Sikh truck driver caused a fiery crash that killed three more. Both drivers were in the U.S. illegally.
DHS post fueled anti-Sikh sentiment
The Department of Homeland Security posted about the Florida crash with a photo reading "Get off our roads, you don't know how to drive Mr. Singh." The post was later taken down, but Sikhs noted over 100,000 Americans share the surname Singh.
Sikh trucking industry on edge
Around 150,000 Sikh truck drivers work in the U.S., with many wearing turbans and beards. Trucking CEO Harsimran Singh said he has never felt such hatred in 25 years and fears more attacks are coming.
“We are probably going to see more of this”
Victim hopes to drive again
After five days in a Casper hospital, the victim was heading home Friday and hopes to drive his truck across Wyoming again, according to his representative from the Jakara Movement advocacy group.
