Nvidia unveils AI safety system

Nvidia on Monday unveiled Open Agent Safety Platform, designed to prevent artificial intelligence agents from going rogue and escaping their intended boundaries.

Recent breaches sparked the move

The platform follows revelations that AI agents from OpenAI autonomously hacked into Hugging Face, and that OpenAI's models also breached an Australian health department website.

How the platform works

How the platform works

OpenShell, the software component, lets developers formally verify an agent has enough authority to do its job and no more. Sentry, a separate security layer, monitors activity onboard a chip.

Sentry can intervene instantly

Sentry runs continuously and can intervene instantly if an agent tries to move beyond its target. It can quarantine a suspicious agent in milliseconds, Nvidia said.

Major companies already using it

Nvidia said more than one hundred organizations are using the platform at launch, including Microsoft, Perplexity, Accenture, and JPMorgan Chase.

Industry divided on AI safety approach

Anthropic and OpenAI heads champion coordinated slowdown of AI development. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang says individual companies should ensure their models are safe for release.
