100 preschools promised for 2027
NSW Education Minister Prue Car and Premier Chris Minns opened a new public preschool at Yagoona in Sydney's south-west.
Minister promised all would be operating
In May, Prue Car said every single one of the public preschools would be open and operating from the first day of term in 2027.
Car refuses to confirm student acceptance
Prue Car repeatedly refused to say how many preschools would actually accept children on day one of term. When asked for a rough estimate, she declined to provide one.
“They will be open by day one, term one, 2027.”
Opposition demands clarity for families
Shadow Early Education Minister Felicity Wilson said families were entitled to know whether all the preschools would begin teaching on day one of the new school year.
“Families need certainty. They need to know where their child will be enrolled.”
Regulatory approval still required
Each preschool will need the approval of the independent NSW Early Learning Commission. Prue Car declined to say whether she anticipated delays during that approval process.
14 centres already open, 7 more operating
The government has opened 14 new centres in time for term four, many in Western Sydney including Cartwright, Granville East, Guildford West and Villawood North. Seven other public preschools are already open to students.
Government reiterates 2027 deadline
Prue Car stated in a statement that all 100 new public preschools will be delivered and ready to accept students by day one, term one, 2027.
“all 100 new public preschools will be delivered and ready to accept students by Day 1, Term 1, 2027”
