Pallister seals world squad with fourth gold

Lani Pallister won four gold medals at the Australian short course championships in Sydney on Friday night, including the eight hundred metre freestyle to secure her spot in the twenty-four-strong Dolphins squad for the world championships.

Four am flight for ocean swim defence

The twenty-four-year-old rushed to Queensland's Sunshine Coast after her Friday night victory, waking at four thirty-eight am to catch an eleven twenty am flight for the one point two kilometre Bluff to Bar ocean swim at Alexandra Headland on Saturday morning.

FOMO and loyalty drive the trip

Pallister said she would get really bad FOMO, or fear of missing out. She explained that it is important to give back because Alexandra Heads Surf Club helped make her the athlete she is today.

“I'd get really bad FOMO. It's important to give back.”

Third straight Bluff to Bar victory

Pallister led a stacked field from start to finish to claim a third-straight victory in the Bluff to Bar ocean swim, making the early wake-up call worthwhile after competing in pool events with one hundred twenty-five tumble turns over four days.

Dominant freestyle performance at nationals

Pallister competed in every freestyle event from one hundred metres to one thousand five hundred metres, winning gold in all but the one hundred metre, where she finished second, making her the headline act for the Dolphins squad.

Six debutants join Dolphins for Beijing

Head Dolphins coach Rohan Taylor noted Pallister, Sam Short and Jenna Forrester as stand-outs at the championships. The squad includes six debutants: Amelie Smith, Mark Nikolaev, Marcus Da Silva, Emily Jones, Cameron Bladen and Alex Quach for the Beijing world championships from December first to sixth.

Pallister heads to altitude training camp

Pallister will head to an altitude training camp in Flagstaff, USA, before the world championships, which represents her ninth Australian Dolphins selection. She said she did not anticipate fast swimming this week but was pretty happy with her performance.

“I didn't really anticipate fast swimming this week. I was actually pretty shocked with the 200 being plus 0.2, so [I'm] pretty happy.”

The short version

Lani Pallister won four gold medals at the Australian short course championships in Sydney, then flew to Queensland to win the Bluff to Bar ocean swim, securing her place in the Dolphins squad for the Beijing world championships.
