Drone hits Dnipro train station

A Russian drone struck a busy platform at a railway station in Ukraine's Dnipro, killing at least 14 people. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called it a horrific attack.

The toll and the wounded

By early afternoon, Dnipropetrovsk regional governor Oleksandr Ganzha said 14 were dead and another 14 wounded. Six wounded were in severe condition, including an eleven-year-old boy.

Zelenskyy demands sanctions stay

Zelenskyy insisted sanctions against Moscow must not be eased while Russia continues its war. He asked how many strikes Russia had carried out since sanctions were lifted on oligarchs.

“How many such terrorist strikes has Russia carried out against our people since sanctions were lifted on some Russian oligarchs and the energy sector, instead of de-escalating”

Macron calls for wider ceasefire

French President Emmanuel Macron reacted with outrage, stressing the need for far more than a localised ceasefire like the one in Oleshky. He said Russia continues to reject proposals.

“It is intolerable that Russia continues to reject all proposals to this end, choosing instead to pursue escalation and target civilians”

Attacks across Ukraine continue

At least six others were killed across Ukraine in separate Russian attacks. A strike on Chernigiv killed two fifteen-year-old girls. Another hit Kremenchuk, killing three.

Ceasefire holds in Oleshky

The fragile local ceasefire in the occupied city of Oleshky, under Russian occupation since 2022, was holding into its third day. Ukrainian human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets announced he had set out towards Oleshky.

Talks set for next month

Russia and Ukraine are to meet next month with US envoys to discuss ways to end Europe's worst conflict since World War II. No firm dates have been set yet.
