Starlink speed limits cripple Ukraine's defence
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Starlink speed restrictions are making the country's interceptor systems unable to stop Russian drone attacks.
US military set the restrictions
Zelenskyy said any restrictions would have been set by the US military and US President Donald Trump, though officials were told they were linked to technical issues.
System works fine in Europe
Ukraine tested Starlink on European Union territory and encountered no problems, with the system operating at higher speeds than in Ukraine.
Starlink denies involvement
Elon Musk's Starlink responded to earlier complaints by insisting the firm had nothing to do with the speed limits affecting Ukraine's weapons.
Russia launches massive energy strike
Moscow carried out a massive strike on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, targeting more than fifteen sites. Russian forces launched four cruise missiles and three hundred thirty-two attack drones overnight.
“The sheer scale and unrelenting pace of Russia's strikes, specifically against our energy sector, are unfortunately having severe consequences.”
Trump pauses Russia sanctions
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order pausing a sweeping package of sanctions targeting the Russian economy, raising fears Ukraine could be left exposed.
Zelenskyy urges sanctions revival
Zelenskyy described Trump's move as unfortunate and urged supporters to speak out in defence of the Lindsey Graham Act, which was supposed to impose pressure on Russia.
“A decision was unfortunately made in America to completely disregard the Lindsey Graham Act, which was supposed to impose truly effective pressure on Russia to bring this war to an end.”
Critics say Trump helps Putin
Senator Richard Blumenthal, who co-drafted the Lindsey Graham Act, said Trump was turning his back on Congress and European allies to serve Putin's interests.
“These waivers have nothing to do with our national security, and everything to do with sucking up to Vladimir Putin.”
