Ronaldo walks out over benching

Cristiano Ronaldo, forty-one, left Portugal's squad after coach Jorge Jesus said he would not start against Denmark in the Nations League. Portugal won the match four two without him.

Fernandes calls Ronaldo greatest icon

Bruno Fernandes said on Saturday that Ronaldo will always be Portugal's greatest symbol and deserves respect for what he has done for the country and the world.

“Cristiano Ronaldo will never cease to be the greatest symbol of our national team, of our football, and of the country.”

Fernandes urges national unity

The Manchester United midfielder called for Portugal to stop dividing over Ronaldo's decision, saying the country should respect all sides while acknowledging Ronaldo's status.

“There are no divisions in the national team, it is one and will remain so, despite any noise that may come from outside.”

Jesus focuses on Norway challenge

Coach Jorge Jesus, seventy-two, said he would focus on the team and opponent Norway, which he described as one of the five best teams in Europe, rather than discuss Ronaldo now.

“I'm going to focus on the team, on the opponent which is Norway, one of the five best teams in Europe.”

Portugal faces Norway on Sunday

Portugal plays Norway again on Sunday in Porto after beating both Norway and Denmark away without Ronaldo starting. Jesus said he would speak about Ronaldo after the match.
