Tens of thousands lose shelter to flooding

Heavy rain since early Saturday has flooded about 70,000 tents sheltering displaced people across Gaza City, northern areas and central Gaza, leaving families without shelter.
Dozens of walls collapse, injuries reported
The flooding caused the collapse of dozens of cracked walls and roofs across the war-devastated territory, resulting in injuries, some of them critical, in various areas.
Civil Defence overwhelmed by distress calls
Palestinian Civil Defence spokesman Mahmoud Basal said his teams received more than 1,500 calls during the night from residents requesting urgent assistance after their tents flooded.
“We cannot face the consequences of this storm on our own”
Civil Defence calls for international help
Basal said the agency is operating without any equipment or capabilities and has issued an urgent distress call to the international community and humanitarian organisations to intervene immediately.
“We have issued an urgent distress call to the international community and humanitarian organisations to intervene immediately to save hundreds of thousands of displaced people from the flooding of their tents.”
