Two killed in border clash

Pakistan says Indian Border Security Force personnel killed two unarmed Pakistani civilians in the Bedian sector on Friday. Another person was reportedly wounded in the incident.

Pakistan's version of events

Pakistan's Foreign Ministry said the BSF used unprovoked and lethal force against unarmed civilians. It called the response wholly unjustified and grossly disproportionate, resulting in tragic loss of life.

“The BSF personnel resorted to unprovoked and lethal force against unarmed civilians. Such use of force was wholly unjustified and grossly disproportionate, resulting in the tragic loss of two precious lives.”

India disputes the account

India's Foreign Ministry rejected Pakistan's allegations as baseless and motivated. It said three people crossed into Indian territory in the Ferozepur sector and continued moving towards the border fence despite warnings.

India cites security threat

India said the BSF was compelled to engage the three people for posing an imminent security threat. New Delhi also linked the incident to cross-border infiltration and drug-smuggling activities from Pakistan.

“The BSF was compelled to engage them for posing an imminent security threat.”

Pakistan demands investigation

Pakistan categorically rejected describing those killed as infiltrators. It urged India to conduct an immediate, transparent and credible investigation and take disciplinary and legal action against those responsible.

Tensions remain high

Relations between Pakistan and India have remained tense since an armed attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir in April two thousand twenty-five killed twenty-six people, triggering a four-day war.

What to remember

Pakistan and India summoned each other's diplomats after two unarmed Pakistani civilians were killed by Indian Border Security Force personnel on Friday, with the countries offering sharply different versions of events.
