French entrepreneur Hélène Huby is taking center stage in aerospace. Her firm, The Exploration Company, just raised a record $450 million Series C round, the largest ever for a female-led European space startup.

As US commercial giants and Chinese startups race ahead, Europe relies on dated infrastructure. The flagship Ariane 6 rocket is costly, fully expendable, and flies only ten times a year.

“We must dock with the space station, with the capsule, as fast as possible. We must build this rocket engine and de-risk it as fast as possible.”

Rather than watching US and Chinese companies dominate, Huby believes Europe can still catch up. Success will require bold targets from entrepreneurs and strong backing from European leaders.
“We need to have European politicians who are ambitious. Entrepreneurs cannot do this alone.”
