Reddit will soon restrict Old Reddit access to logged-in users who have used the site within the previous six months. The company says this reduces scraping and automated traffic.

Login requirement came first

In July, Reddit started requiring users to log in to access Old Reddit. This was the first step in reducing the company's biggest source of scraping and automated traffic.

Moderators get an exemption

Moderators will still be able to view Old Reddit regardless of when they last used it, as long as they are logged in. This exception preserves access for those who rely on it.

Reddit spokesperson Rosa Kim said the changes are about limiting unauthenticated access and reducing automated abuse, not removing Old Reddit. The company wants to preserve it for real users.

“We want to preserve Old Reddit for the real people that use it, not let it be a vector for automated abuse.”

CEO's position has shifted

In two thousand twenty-five, CEO Steve Huffman said Old Reddit would stay online as long as people used it. In August, he said the company needs to make changes, probably including limiting access and rebuilding on modern technology.

“the reality is we're getting to that time where we need to make some changes.”

RSS feeds ending November thirteenth

Reddit will stop supporting RSS feeds on November thirteen because RSS is now a common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse. Moderators will have access through supported alternatives like Discord Relay.
