Volunteer attacked outside his home

A man aged 37 and a boy aged 14 were arrested on Sunday night after allegedly assaulting a One Nation volunteer with a baseball bat outside his home in Torquay, about 100km south-west of Melbourne.
Charges and the volunteer's condition

The man was charged with assault offences and remanded in custody. The boy was issued with a caution. The volunteer was hospitalised with non-life threatening injuries and remains in a stable condition.
Party leader blames interference with signs
One Nation's Victorian leader Warren Pickering claimed the attack happened after the pair interfered with election signs on the volunteer's property. Police have not provided details about a motive.
Political leaders condemn the violence
One Nation leader Pauline Hanson visited the volunteer at University Hospital Geelong on Tuesday. Victorian Premier Ben Carroll called the attack shocking, saying volunteers deserve protection regardless of their politics.
“Whether you're wearing a red, a blue, an orange, or a green T-shirt, they are volunteers. They are out there doing what they believe is right, and no one should be coming under attack.”
