Kirk shot at Utah campus event

Conservative activist Charlie Kirk, thirty-one, was shot dead on September tenth, twenty twenty-five, while addressing thousands of people in an Orem campus courtyard at Utah Valley University.
Review finds security assessment gaps
An independent review of Utah Valley University found the campus did not carry out a proper written security assessment nor prepare an event action plan before Kirk's event.
Turning Point overrode venue concerns

University officials raised concerns in August twenty twenty-five about the outdoor courtyard location surrounded by tall buildings and suggested indoor alternatives, but a Turning Point representative insisted Kirk speak there.
“But a Turning Point representative insisted that Kirk speak at a campus courtyard because he had been there previously and the organisation was familiar with the location.”
No line-of-sight assessment documented
Despite significant protective operations considerations, no line-of-sight assessment was documented in the planning process, and a proposed meeting between university police and Kirk's private security did not take place.
Kirk's family demands accountability
Kirk's family lawyer Brett Parkinson said the report backed their concerns. He stated the buck stopped with UVU leadership and law enforcement, and justice requires true accountability for UVU's fatal shortcomings.
“The buck stopped with UVU leadership and law enforcement.”
Suspect pleads not guilty to murder

Tyler Robinson, Kirk's alleged killer, has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in connection with Kirk's death.
What to remember
