Swiatek ends season early

Poland's Iga Swiatek, a six-time Grand Slam champion, has ended her 2026 season after pulling out of the Ningbo Open with a thigh injury on Tuesday.
First WTA Finals miss since 2019
The withdrawal means Swiatek failed to qualify for the end-of-season WTA Finals for the first time since 2019, prompting her decision to stop competing.
Dropped to ninth in rankings
Swiatek has ended a season without a Grand Slam title for the first time since 2021 and has dropped to ninth in the rankings from her former world number one position.
One title and injury struggles

The twenty-five-year-old managed one WTA title this season, the Canadian Open in August, and ends with a forty-two to sixteen win-loss record.
Swiatek seeks longer recovery
Swiatek said she needs to rest and recover her body fully, describing the past couple of years as incredibly intense.
“I feel I need to rest and recover my body fully, so that's exactly what I will do - [for] a bit longer this time.”
What to remember
Iga Swiatek ended her 2026 season early after failing to qualify for the WTA Finals, citing the need for physical and mental recovery after what she called one of her most challenging seasons.
