Orioles eye two trade targets and free agents from World Series teams.
In brief
Orioles eye two trade targets and free agents from World Series teams. Orioles target Shane McClanahan and Freddy Peralta for 2027 season. Originally reported by Baltimore Orioles On SI.
Orioles GM Mike Elias
Orioles baseball boss Mike Elias has never won a playoff game and it’s quite fair to wonder if he ever will after his team has had successive seasons falling 18.5 and 19.
Rays' Competitive Edge
The Rays have utterly undressed Elias for eight years with smaller budgets and less resources and repeatedly thrashed him in trades.
Elias' Trade History
Elias traded Corbin Burnes from the Brewers and gave Shane Baz to the Rays as if he was Burnes.
2027 Trade Targets
Orioles are circling strategic options for 2027 off World Series rosters.
Shane McClanahan (Trade)
Rays former Cy Young starter Shane McClanahan is the top starting pitching trade target for Elias.
Freddy Peralta (Free Agent)
Freddy Peralta might be closer to $30M/season than $20M for Orioles 2027 needs.
Brandon Woodruff (Free Agent)
Brandon Woodruff could be a cheap second starter for Orioles 2027.
Joey Ortiz (Trade)
Joey Ortiz would alter Orioles infield defense if traded for.
Orioles' Strategic Plan
Orioles target McClanahan and Peralta for 2027 season with trade options.
Dan Syzmborski's View
Dan Syzmborski, Fangraphs analyst, says one-year rental for Peralta makes sense.
Brandon Woodruff's Value
Woodruff was good for 150 innings/year before injuries and could be cheap.
Joey Ortiz's Impact
Ortiz would improve Orioles infield defense if paired with Jordan Westburg.
Trade Deadline Consideration
Orioles might trade Gunnar Henderson for Joey Ortiz by trade deadline.
2027 Strategy
Orioles target McClanahan and Peralta for 2027 season with trade options.
The takeaway
Orioles target Shane McClanahan and Freddy Peralta for 2027 season.
