AI Tool 'Artex' Used in South Korean Financial Sector Hacks Launches Commercially in China

Chinese security firm ThreatBook unveiled RedAgents.ai, a cloud platform including commercial Artex version, beginning pre-registrations.

“Artex is back with a commercial edition”

Artex Origin

Artex began as a personal project by ThreatBook's engineer, converted to private after South Korean financial hacks.

“Artex is an autonomous penetration testing tool that works in conjunction with AI models to carry out everything from reconnaissance to vulnerability discovery and penetration attempts”

Platform Features

RedAgents.ai bundles Artex Pro with YanXun, YanJi, and CyberStrikeAI enterprise version for comprehensive security testing.

“A single agent cannot find every vulnerability. Just as with human-conducted penetration testing, AI agents each have different strengths and approaches, so using multiple agents together enables broader security assessments”

Security Enhancements

Security Enhancements

New platform includes scope-of-authorization controls and zero data retention features to prevent misuse.

“When users designate a list of targets they are authorized to assess, the platform restricts operations to that scope, and all test data is stored within ThreatBook's environment and not passed to third-party agents”

South Korean Breaches

Approximately 100,000 records leaked from 16 South Korean financial institutions including Shinhan Bank and KB Kookmin Bank.

“South Korea's financial authorities disclosed that approximately 100,000 records were leaked from 16 financial institutions”

Attack Scale

Shinhan Bank leaked 25,000 customers, KB Kookmin Bank 119, Hana Bank 89, and Busan Bank 11 outsourced staff.

“Shinhan Bank Approximately 25,000 customers (loan application-related information)”

Investigation Status

South Korean police are investigating attacks linked to Artex after it was exploited in financial sector breaches.

“The South Korean National Police Agency's Cyber Investigation Bureau is currently conducting a related investigation”

In short

ThreatBook's RedAgents.ai platform with commercial Artex version begins accepting pre-registrations following South Korean financial sector breaches.
