Pink breaks down why she reposted that Macklemore criticism

Pink explains the repost that set off a week of backlash, and draws a line between free speech and being spoken for.

In brief

Pink explains the repost that set off a week of backlash, and draws a line between free speech and being spoken for. Pink says her objection was never to "Free Palestine" itself, it was to Macklemore telling Jewish fans in the stadium that his message wasn't about them. Originally reported by Billboard.

The repost that started it

P!nk attends the 79th Annual Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall on June 7, 2026 in New York City.

After Macklemore made pro-Palestine remarks opening for Ed Sheeran at MetLife Stadium on Sept. 4 and 5, Pink reshared a StopAntisemitism post calling for him to be cut from the tour.

She owns the snark

On Sept. 11 she posted a three-part Instagram statement admitting she handled the fallout badly, firing off memes instead of saying what she actually meant.

“A repost isn't a statement, and a meme isn't a spine.”

Judged without being asked

Pink says strangers decided what she believed based on one repost and the fact that she is Jewish, without checking anything she has ever said or done.

“I was born a Jew. I didn't pick it, and I've never hidden it.”

Where she actually stands

She has never spoken for Israel or any government. She called Hamas a terrorist organization and said Palestinians deserve a future that honors their humanity.

“Protecting innocent life comes first, everywhere, and nobody should ever celebrate the death of a child.”

Ten years with UNICEF

As a longtime UNICEF ambassador she has visited children hurt by war on both sides, and she refuses to argue the conflict in an Instagram caption.

“I didn't do it from behind a screen; I went to those children and held them.”

The 2014 costume she let go

She brought up Macklemore's 2014 performance in a costume widely called antisemitic. He apologized, and she dropped it, which is what she says Jewish people usually do.

“Every Jew I know knew exactly what it was.”

The line that set her off

What bothered her was Macklemore telling the Jews in a family-filled stadium, with war footage on the screens behind him, that his message wasn't aimed at them.

“You don't get to decide that for us.”

Nobody gets silenced

She is not asking for a firing, a refund, or a cancellation. She wants room to say that a Jewish mom found it frightening without being told the fear is propaganda.

“I have never asked for another artist to be silenced and I'm not asking now.”

The bottom line

Pink says her objection was never to "Free Palestine" itself, it was to Macklemore telling Jewish fans in the stadium that his message wasn't about them.
