Anthropic updates Claude's rules
Anthropic said most changes to its revised usage policy for Claude were intended to clarify existing rules. The updated policy takes effect on November 12.
New ban on deceptive campaigns
Anthropic added a section titled Do Not Engage in Deceptive Campaigns or Artificial Activity, covering efforts to obscure who is behind a message or amplify content through fake accounts.
“It covers efforts to obscure who is behind a message or amplify content through fake accounts or posts, along with building the tools and infrastructure for running influence operation campaigns.”
Elections and weapons restrictions tightened
Anthropic renamed its elections section to Do Not Undermine Democratic Processes and made explicit that Claude cannot be used to develop weapons software or components, including arming drones.
Surveillance and law enforcement limits
Anthropic tightened rules on surveillance and criminal justice, banning Claude from tracking people without consent, doxxing, or recommending who to investigate, arrest or charge in law enforcement.
What it means
Anthropic updated Claude's usage policy to explicitly ban deceptive campaigns, weapons development, surveillance misuse and law enforcement abuse, taking effect November 12.
