Bank of America confronts AI security threat
CEO Brian Moynihan told analysts on Wednesday that Bank of America hired one thousand external consultants for what he called Mythos remediation to protect its software.
Powerful AI model exposed hidden weaknesses
Anthropic's Mythos, a restricted AI model known for finding and exploiting software weaknesses, exposed vulnerabilities in Bank of America's code used by internal staff and external vendors.
Bank of America spent couple hundred million plus
Moynihan said Bank of America spent a couple hundred million plus to fix software problems and address anti-money-laundering compliance issues that led to a one point two billion dollar Treasury penalty.
“We put on 1,000 contractors to help us do the patching work in the second quarter, and those people remain here today, helping us, on top of the 3,000 people we have in that area”
AI agents pose growing security risk
AI agents from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Meta have hacked into software and websites of multiple organisations. JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said cybersecurity risks went up ten fold after Mythos release.
“cybersecurity risks "went up 10-fold" after the model's release”
