Huang accuses AI leaders of hiding real motives
Nvidia's CEO says frontier AI labs calling for regulation are actually seeking to escape existing rules.
In brief
Nvidia's CEO says frontier AI labs calling for regulation are actually seeking to escape existing rules. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang accused AI leaders of disingenuousness, claiming their calls for regulation mask a desire to escape current laws. Originally reported by Business Insider.
Huang rejects AI doomsday warnings
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang told CBS News on Sunday that frontier AI lab leaders are being disingenuous when they warn about AI risks without proper oversight.
The real ask, Huang says
Huang accused AI leaders of disguising their true goal. They claim to want regulation but actually seek relief from existing laws, he said.
“They're actually not asking for more laws. They're asking to be relieved of the laws we do have.”
Ulterior motives, Huang suggests
Huang said AI leaders must have hidden reasons for their warnings. He called their scare tactics irresponsible and unnecessary, though he did not specify what those motives are.
“They must be doing it for ulterior reasons.”
Trump and allies align with Huang
President Donald Trump said on Saturday that new regulations are not needed for AI safety. Michael Kratsios, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, echoed this on Fox News on Sunday.
Amodei's three-pronged plan
Last week, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published an essay titled We Must Pace the Frontier proposing a slowdown in AI development with safeguards and government regulation for antitrust reasons.
Huang's counter on competition
Huang reiterated that slowing US AI labs would give China an advantage in the global AI race. He said labs do not need government help to implement a slowdown and existing regulations should be applied.
“We don't need more regulations. We need to apply the current regulations we have.”
The big picture
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang accused AI leaders of disingenuousness, claiming their calls for regulation mask a desire to escape current laws.
