Protein is everywhere now
Protein has entered every corner of the pantry as consumers aim to build or avoid losing muscle. There's protein popcorn, protein cereal, and even protein water.
Yogurt brands are upping protein
Yogurt is naturally high in protein, but some brands are taking extra steps to ensure their yogurts have as much protein as possible.
The tasting experiment
A taster compared eleven different high-protein yogurts from a local store in New York City and ranked them from least favorite to top pick.
What counts as high-protein
The taster considered any yogurt with over twelve grams of protein per serving, the equivalent of two eggs, to be high-protein.
Ranking criteria
The yogurts were ranked based on taste and protein content. The taster evaluated flavor, texture, and nutritional value for each brand.
Eleventh place: Too Good Blended
Too Good Blended costs one ninety-nine for five point three ounces and has eighty calories and twelve grams of protein. The taster found it chalky and artificial-tasting.
“To me, it tasted like chalk.”

Ninth place: Chobani Greek Yogurt
Chobani Greek Yogurt costs one ninety-nine for five point three ounces, has one hundred ten calories and twelve grams of protein. It has nine grams of sugar, tied for highest.

Yoplait Protein costs one seventy-nine for five point six ounces, has one hundred calories and fifteen grams of protein. It was the cheapest yogurt tested and the largest size.
Seventh place: Oikos Triple Zero

Sixth place: Siggi's Skyr
Siggi's Skyr costs two thirty-nine for five point three ounces, has one hundred ten calories and sixteen grams of protein. It has nine grams of sugar, tied for highest.

“When you open a cup of Oikos Pro, you smell mild vanilla, which translates into a very tasty yogurt with a flavor that stays on your tongue longer than others.”
Third place: Icelandic Provisions
Icelandic Provisions costs one ninety-nine for five point three ounces, has one hundred thirty calories and fifteen grams of protein. It has nine grams of sugar, tied for highest.
“It is similar in taste and texture, but I found it a bit sweeter and less tart, with a nuttier flavor, which I really enjoyed.”

“It is rich, thicker, and very filling. It has a hint of the signature Chobani Greek yogurt taste while skipping much of the tartness.”
Why Chobani Protein won
The taster was a fan of Chobani Protein before the test and entered ready to find a new favorite. Despite testing other surprising options, Chobani Protein remained the best.
“I didn't.”
