PwC US is merging its India back office into PwC India

A joint venture would fold PwC US's Acceleration Centers into PwC India's consulting arm, a real break from the Big Four's separate-firms model.

In brief

A joint venture would fold PwC US's Acceleration Centers into PwC India's consulting arm, a real break from the Big Four's separate-firms model. PwC is betting that a globally integrated delivery model beats a network of legally separate national firms, starting with the US-India link. Originally reported by Business…

PwC US rewires India

PwC US is overhauling how it runs offshore delivery in India, pulling its local hubs much closer to PwC India's consulting business.

A joint venture, not a memo tweak

The two firms plan to merge PwC US's India-based Acceleration Centers with PwC India's consulting arm. US CEO Paul Griggs told staff in a Saturday memo; the deal is expected to close in the first half of 2027.

“technology, engineering and AI capabilities together at greater scale”

What the ACs actually do

The hubs supply specialist talent and overnight support to US teams, taking non-client-facing work across time zones. Until now they ran independently of PwC India.

Cutting out the middle man

When the AC runs out of capacity, US consultants go to PwC India and have to renegotiate rates and terms, which costs days. One consultant said the JV removes that friction.

“the middle man, PwC AC”

A crack in the member-firm wall

Like KPMG, Deloitte and EY, PwC is a network of legally separate national firms. That separation matters most in audit, where local rules and independence requirements bind.

The integrated consulting bet

Griggs frames it as selling clients the best of PwC rather than a location. PwC UK is on the same track, reportedly merging its risk and consulting arms in April.

“The firms that win will be the ones that stop thinking about markets, capabilities, and delivery as separate pieces”

The key point

PwC is betting that a globally integrated delivery model beats a network of legally separate national firms, starting with the US-India link.
