New images show Iranian strikes damaged aircraft, barracks and vehicles at U.S. positions across the Middle East.
In brief
New images show Iranian strikes damaged aircraft, barracks and vehicles at U.S. positions across the Middle East. The newly surfaced photos point to far wider damage from Iranian missile and drone attacks than the public had seen. Originally reported by CBS News.
Photos surface
CBS News obtained images showing damaged buildings and vehicles at several U.S. positions after Iranian missile and drone attacks.
Troops broke silence
Active service members shared the images anonymously, citing tight military media rules and frustration over what Americans have not been told.
“This is major damage to our bases that hasn't been communicated to the American public”
A radar plane hit
At Prince Sultan Air Force Base in Saudi Arabia, one photo shows a Boeing E-3 Sentry with its tail cut from a burned fuselage.
Defenses fell short
Other photos show gutted buildings and barracks beside intact cement T-walls, barriers built for ground threats that did little against air attacks.
Kuwait sites scarred
Camp Buehring and Camp Arifjan in Kuwait also appear in the images, with destroyed trailers, damaged buildings and wrecked vehicles.
Losses reached billions
A Pentagon inspector general report put equipment losses as high as $3.7 billion, including nearly 60 aircraft. The Pentagon did not comment.
“We're just watching them get destroyed.”
What it means
The newly surfaced photos point to far wider damage from Iranian missile and drone attacks than the public had seen.
