Trespasser reached Kamala Harris' Malibu property
A late-night security call at the former vice president's home lands as her federal protection stays revoked.
In brief
A late-night security call at the former vice president's home lands as her federal protection stays revoked. Harris' private security handled the intruder because the federal detail Trump revoked last August is no longer there. Originally reported by CBS News.
A 10:30 p.m. call
Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies were sent to Kamala Harris' Malibu home Friday night after her private security detail phoned in a suspicious person.
They asked, he left
Deputies made contact with the person and told them to go. The individual left voluntarily, no arrest and no confrontation.
“The person left voluntarily without incident.”
Stopped short of the house
Harris' spokesperson said security caught the individual after they illegally entered the property but before they reached the residence itself.
“security personnel stopped an individual who illegally entered Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Emhoff's property before the individual reached the home”
Nobody was home
Harris and Doug Emhoff were away. Their spokesperson thanked the security and law enforcement staff who moved quickly.
Extra patrols now
The sheriff's department took a trespassing report and said the local station would step up patrols around the area as a precaution.
The protection she lost
Former VPs get federal protection for six months; Biden extended hers past that. Trump revoked the extension last August, which is why a private detail made the call.
The big picture
Harris' private security handled the intruder because the federal detail Trump revoked last August is no longer there.
