Trump's super PAC sits on war chest as midterms loom

MAGA Inc. has $415.8 million but has spent only a fraction of promised funds with six weeks until the 2026 midterm election.

In brief

MAGA Inc. has $415.8 million but has spent only a fraction of promised funds with six weeks until the 2026 midterm election. Trump's MAGA Inc. super PAC holds four hundred fifteen point eight million dollars but has disclosed minimal spending despite his promise to deploy four hundred to five hundred million dollars…

Trump's super PAC grows its war chest

MAGA Inc. ended August with four hundred fifteen point eight million dollars in cash, up more than twelve million from July. The super PAC raised twenty three point seven million and spent eleven point four million in August.

Major donors replenish the fund

Cryptocurrency billionaires Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss contributed ten million dollars combined. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman gave two million dollars. Venture capital firm Trousdale Ventures CEO Phillip Sarofim gave one million dollars.

Trump promises massive spending push

On September fourth, Trump said he planned to deploy four hundred million to five hundred million dollars from MAGA Inc. to help Republicans in November. He told reporters the money was under his control.

“This is money from MAGA Inc. This is money that I control.”

Republicans pressure Trump to spend

Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana said on Fox News in late August that he hoped Trump would spend one hundred or two hundred million dollars in Texas. Senate Majority Leader John Thune of South Dakota made a similar appeal on September first.

“We need help from the president.”

Spending lags far behind promises

More than two weeks after Trump's September fourth announcement, MAGA Inc. itself disclosed only about fifteen million dollars in spending, concentrated in the Texas Senate race. The FEC requires disclosure within forty eight hours for independent expenditures reaching ten thousand dollars.

New super PACs channel larger sums

Two super PACs created September first, No Going Back PAC Inc. and Safety and Affordability PAC Inc., have reserved at least one hundred twenty six million dollars in advertising. No Going Back reserved about ninety eight point five million and Safety and Affordability reserved about twenty seven million.

Democrats hold fundraising advantage

Entering July, Democratic Senate candidates held about seventy five million dollars across seven closely watched battlegrounds, roughly twice the thirty eight million dollars held by Republican opponents. Trump's hundreds of millions dwarfs those totals.

Late spending carries trade-offs

Television inventory was nearing saturation in some battlegrounds by mid-September. Super PACs pay substantially more than candidates for comparable airtime. Later reservations cost Trump-aligned groups more than earlier bookings would have.

Political scientist defends the delay

Political scientist defends the delay

Vanderbilt University political scientist John Sides told CNBC that spending earlier than September is most likely ineffective. He said it makes more sense to start advertising now than spend money all summer when voters are not paying close attention.

“The weight of the evidence is that spending earlier than September is most likely ineffective.”

The takeaway

Trump's MAGA Inc. super PAC holds four hundred fifteen point eight million dollars but has disclosed minimal spending despite his promise to deploy four hundred to five hundred million dollars to help Republicans before the midterms.
