In brief
Sacramento police released video of a random morning attack that ended with deputies firing in a family's driveway. The attack was random. An open garage door was the only thing that picked this family. Originally reported by California Post.
It started at a Starbucks

Around 6:30 a.m. on July 15, a 23-year-old man walked into a Sacramento Starbucks carrying a kitchen knife and went behind the counter. Staff hid.
Barricaded in the back

Employees locked themselves in the back room and called 911 while he pounded on the doors trying to force his way in.
“He entered behind our counter and was trying to push into our back door. We had to barricade it.”
Jogging down Diablo Drive

Video caught him running down a residential street with the knife still in hand, heading toward the 5700 block of Diablo Drive.
He walked into the garage

A 63-year-old woman was getting into her car in her own garage. He intercepted her there and began stabbing her, police said.
The daughter ran in
Her 26-year-old daughter heard the screams and pulled the man off her mother. He turned the knife on her instead.
Deputies fired in seconds

Officers arrived mid-struggle and shouted at him to drop the knife. He kept stabbing, and they shot him dead at the scene.
Nobody knew him

Investigators found no connection between the man and the family. Both women were hospitalized in serious but stable condition.
“This monster just saw an open garage, saw a victim and immediately started attacking.”
The essence
The attack was random. An open garage door was the only thing that picked this family.
