A teenager charged with murder

Chicago police charged a 15-year-old girl with murder in the death of a passenger shoved off a moving CTA train on Labor Day. She is not named because of her age.

Arrested in Greater Grand Crossing

Officers took her into custody on Friday in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood, nearly a week after the killing.

Three charges, not one

Beyond murder, she faces counts of mob action and felony assault of a transit employee, according to a police statement.

Held until trial

At her first court appearance on Saturday, a judge ordered her detained until trial, the Cook County state's attorney office said.

A fight on a moving train

Last Monday afternoon, a fight broke out on a Red Line train. Police say three attackers pushed 29-year-old Kyle T. Bickham off the moving car in the first block of West 69th Street.

Struck by another train

Bickham landed on the tracks and was hit by a second train. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ruled a homicide

An autopsy found he died of multiple injuries. The Cook County medical examiner's office ruled the death a homicide.

Ninth of the weekend

His killing was the ninth homicide across Chicago's long Labor Day weekend.

The first account was wrong

Police initially said a person had jumped from the train. That version was later replaced by the account of an attack.

“Police originally reported a person had jumped from the train.”

His family wants more security

Bickham's relatives are pressing the CTA for stronger security on trains so riders are not left alone with a crowd that turns violent.

The short version

Kyle Bickham, 29, died after three people shoved him from a moving Red Line train on Labor Day, and the first arrest is a 15-year-old girl now held until trial.
