St. Ignatius enters Super 25 rankings

St. Ignatius has doubled its regular-season win total from a year ago to reach Super 25 rankings.

“Playoff-bound for the first time since 2023, St. Ignatius (4-1, 1-0 CCL Orange) has already doubled its regular-season win total from a year ago.”

Triple-option offense

St. Ignatius maintains triple-option attack under coach Matt Miller as Catholic League shifts to spread offenses.

“As more teams in the Catholic League shift toward spread offenses, St. Ignatius has stayed true to its triple-option attack under coach Matt Miller.”

Prep Bowl championships

St. Ignatius earned Prep Bowl championships to build momentum for 2026 season.

“The Wolfpack missed the IHSA playoffs each of the last two years, but Miller and his program slowly built momentum back with a pair of Prep Bowl championships.”

Rushing record

Nino Capuano set school record with 279 rushing yards against St. Rita.

“Capuano set a new school record for rushing yards against St. Rita. The 5-7, 180-pounder erupted for 279 yards and three scores in a 42-16 victory.”

Reid Hites' performance

Reid Hites accounted for six touchdowns in 8.5 quarters of work.

“Hites, meanwhile, has captained the St. Ignatius offense since he returned from elbow surgery late in his sophomore year. The junior quarterback accounted for six touchdowns in only 8.5 quarters of work over the team’s first three games this year.”

Connor Hites' defense

Connor Hites intercepted two passes and made two sacks against Hope Academy.

“Hites’ older brother Connor is a key factor on the Wolfpack defense at safety. He intercepted two passes, made two sacks and totaled 10 tackles against Hope Academy.”

Fenwick victory

St. Ignatius defeated defending Class 6A champion Fenwick in first divisional win since 2023.

“The win over Fenwick was St. Ignatius’s first divisional victory since 2023, when the Wolfpack won the Green with a 3-0 mark.”

St. Ignatius' defense

St. Ignatius allowed only 64 points in five games with one loss to IC Catholic.

“St. Ignatius’ only loss came against unbeaten IC Catholic and the Wolfpack has allowed just 64 points in five games.”

Team confidence

St. Ignatius players feel confident after overcoming past doubts.

“We’re in a position that I thought we would be,” Miller said. “We expected to be in this spot competing for a division title, so I wouldn’t say it’s a surprise. That’s been the goal of our players. We want to win a state championship regardless of what class we’re in.””

Team goals

St. Ignatius aims to win state championship regardless of classification.

“Our connection this year is a lot stronger than it’s been in years past,” Reid Hites said. “Our goals are a lot bigger and I feel like we had a different mentality going into the season. We don’t want to be overlooked anymore and I feel like our work has paid off so far...With the Fenwick game and the Rita game, we went into those games overlooked, but from within, everyone on the team knew we could win those games. That was the ultimate goal and we did that.””

The bottom line

St. Ignatius enters Super 25 rankings with 4-1 record after doubling regular-season wins from previous year.
