Meidroth homers twice and it still isn't enough

Two leadoff home runs, twelve runners left on base, and a division lead shrinking to half a game.

In brief

Two leadoff home runs, twelve runners left on base, and a division lead shrinking to half a game. Individual brilliance can't cover for an offense that goes 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, and the White Sox are running out of cushion in the AL Central. A rebound that never came

A rebound that never came

Coming off a sweep at the hands of the Pirates, Chicago needed a win in St. Louis. They lost 7-3 instead, their fourth straight defeat.

First pitch, gone

Sep 11, 2026; St. Louis, Missouri, USA; Chicago White Sox second baseman Chase Meidroth (10) is congratulated by third base coach Justin Jirschele (71) after hi

Chase Meidroth swung at the very first pitch Matthew Liberatore threw all night and put it over the wall. The game opened with a lead.

He did it again

Meidroth led off the third with a second home run. Two swings, two runs, and that was essentially the entire White Sox offense for the evening.

Twelve runners stranded

Chicago went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base. The chances were there all game and none of them turned into runs.

“When it mattered most, the White Sox failed to get anything done”

Anthony Kay stays stuck

Kay's fourth rough start in a row: three runs on five hits and a walk across four innings, on just 67 pitches before the hook came.

Missed tags, free runs

Two of the three runs charged to Kay crossed the plate on missed tags by catcher Jake Rogers. The defense handed St. Louis what the bats didn't.

The bullpen leaked too

Trevor Richards gave up three runs in two innings on five hits and a walk. Tyler Schweitzer added one more over the final two frames.

Cleveland is half a game back

The Guardians have closed to within a half game, and Luis Castillo starts next with a 7.52 ERA in six Chicago outings against a Cardinals arm at 3.41.

“Castillo has been nothing short of terrible in Chicago”

Here's the gist

Individual brilliance can't cover for an offense that goes 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, and the White Sox are running out of cushion in the AL Central.
