Oracle's AI boom is just getting started

Oracle's massive backlog is converting to revenue as cloud infrastructure grows 121% and creative financing unlocks billions in new contracts.

In brief

Oracle's massive backlog is converting to revenue as cloud infrastructure grows 121% and creative financing unlocks billions in new contracts. Oracle's backlog is finally paying off

Oracle's $664 billion revenue backlog is converting to cash. Cloud infrastructure revenue jumped 121% to $7.5 billion in Q1, while overall cloud revenue grew 62% to $11.6 billion.

Oracle is now the second-fastest growing

Among hyperscalers, Oracle grew 62% last quarter, behind only Google Cloud at 82%, and ahead of AWS at 37% and Microsoft at 27%.

Oracle's $664 billion RPO backlog exceeds AWS at $496 billion and Google Cloud at $514 billion, nearly matching Microsoft's $678 billion.

Delivering AI capacity at scale

In Q1, Oracle delivered 850 megawatts of AI capacity with over 300,000 GPUs to customers. That's nearly three times Q4 delivery and 73% of all capacity delivered in the prior fiscal year.

“We delivered 850MW of AI capacity, containing more than 300,000 GPUs to customers.”

Thirty billion in new contracts, no new capital

Oracle closed over $30 billion in additional AI contracts in Q1 without requiring additional capital from the company. This is possible through innovative financing and business model approaches.

Bring your own hardware model

Bring your own hardware model

Customers can provide their own hardware and pay Oracle for operational expertise and cloud infrastructure technology to turn it into an AI cluster.

“I'd like to pay for the hardware but use your operational ability and your cloud-infrastructure technology assets”

Supplier financing spreads the cost

Oracle works with suppliers through financing arrangements where Oracle pays for capacity as customers pay Oracle, spreading capital requirements across multiple parties.

“working with our suppliers through different financing arrangements that allows us to pay for the capacity as the customers pay us”

Customer prepayments fund expansion

Some customers, including startups and established companies, prepay Oracle upfront for AI capacity, eliminating Oracle's need to front capital for that infrastructure.

“the customer has been able to raise money and says, 'I would like to pay you up front as a prepayment'”

Business model innovation wins wars

Oracle's success depends as much on go-to-market strategy and financing creativity as on technology. The company is adapting faster than larger competitors by finding flexible ways to fund infrastructure.

“the Cloud Wars of mid-2026 are as much about go-to-market and business model innovation as they are about technology”

The essence

Oracle is solving the capital constraint problem through innovative business models like bring-your-own-hardware and customer prepayments, allowing it to scale AI infrastructure faster than competitors without burning through its own cash.
