Who's Back (and Who's New) in Practical Magic 2
A quick guide to every witch, aunt, daughter and warlock in the Practical Magic sequel, and where you know them from.
In brief
A quick guide to every witch, aunt, daughter and warlock in the Practical Magic sequel, and where you know them from. Most of the original cast returns as themselves; the daughters got recast and the new faces are all men, because the first movie killed off nearly every man in it. A legacy sequel needs a roll call
Practical Magic 2 brings back most of the 1998 cast, recasts a couple of smaller roles, and adds new characters. Here is who is who.
“Legacy sequels like this one often require a check-in”
The new faces are all men
Every significant new character is male, for a grim reason: most of the men in the original film did not survive it.
“That's how it goes with the Owens girls.”
Nicole Kidman is Gillian
Kidman returns as Sally's sister, a cursed witch living in Massachusetts. She won an Oscar for The Hours and an Emmy for Big Little Lies.
Sandra Bullock is Sally
Bullock is back as the other cursed Owens sister. Speed, Gravity, Miss Congeniality, and an Academy Award for The Blind Side.
“She is a true movie star. Don't you ever forget it.”
Maisie Williams plays Antonia
Sally's youngest daughter is now played by the Game of Thrones star, taking over from Alexandra Artrip.
Joey King plays Kylie
Sally's oldest daughter was Evan Rachel Wood in 1998. King, of The Kissing Booth and The Act, steps in.
Lee Pace is the magic scholar
Pace plays Ian Wright, a scholar who might be able to break the Owens curse. You know him from Pushing Daisies, The Hobbit and Foundation.
“But, most importantly, he's 6'5".”
The aunts return intact
Stockard Channing is Aunt Frances again and Dianne Wiest is Aunt Jet. Between them: a Tony, three Emmys and two Oscars.
Xolo Maridueña is Gideon
Kylie's boyfriend is played by the Blue Beetle star, also known from Cobra Kai and the next season of One Piece.
Solly McLeod is the warlock
McLeod plays Thomas Lockland. Before this he turned up in House of the Dragon, Outlander, and UK series like Tom Jones.
The headline
Most of the original cast returns as themselves; the daughters got recast and the new faces are all men, because the first movie killed off nearly every man in it.
