In brief
An 86-year-old knight gave The Voice an accidental sex-ed lesson, and days later ITV took his chair away. ITV cut its most beloved coach right as he delivered the most-replayed moment of the series, and viewers noticed. Originally reported by Dailymail.
A sex ed lesson nobody booked

Sir Tom Jones, 86, stunned his fellow coaches on Saturday's episode of The Voice by explaining a piece of British slang out loud on camera.
It started with a rap name

Will.i.am told Danny Jones his rap name should be 'Danny Fanny'. Kelly Rowland ran with it and suggested he could rap about it.
Tom could not let it go

He jumped in to correct the Americans on what the word actually means on this side of the Atlantic, and he did not soften it.
“Kelly, over here, only women have fannies. It's a vagina!”
The panel lost it
The coaches broke into fits of laughter. Tom covered his own mouth once he registered what he had just said on national television.
Even the host hid
Emma Willis looked visibly shocked and covered her face as the moment played out during filming.
Kelly summed it up

Rowland delivered the line that closed the bit, and it became the clip everyone shared afterwards.
“Y'all did not expect a sex ed conversation!”
Viewers hit replay

Fans online called it brilliant and said they had watched it over and over. One wrote that they kept thinking he wouldn't say it, and then he did.
“I have replayed this so many times. It is hilarious”
'An international treasure'
The praise stacked up fast: 'Sir Tom is the best', 'The funniest thing ever', 'This episode is brilliant'. One viewer said he was like a teacher explaining the word.
“Sir Tom is an international treasure”
Then the mood turned

For a lot of viewers the clip landed as proof of what ITV is about to lose, because Tom had been axed from the show days earlier.
Fans turned on ITV
Comments ran from 'So why have you got rid of him?' to 'So iconic you stab him in the back?' and 'Bring him back right now!'
“The Voice without Tom and Will wouldn't work!”
Thirteen years, gone late
After the announcement, Sir Tom hit out at ITV and said the axing came last-minute after 13 years on the judging panel.
He did not want to go
In a statement on social media he made his position plain, heading off any suggestion the exit was his choice.
“To be clear, I did not want to leave The Voice as I love the show and really appreciate the audience.”
The offer he refused
Tom says he was offered a much reduced role with no chair of his own and no involvement across the whole show.
“I'm not thrilled about that”
His line about being 86
He closed the statement with the sentence that got quoted everywhere, and it cut harder than any complaint about the format.
“There's never a good time to fire an 86-year-old who's still pretty good at his job.”
Cheryl and Aitch come in
ITV confirmed a revamp bringing in rapper Aitch and former Girls Aloud star Cheryl as coaches, with Kelly Rowland and will.i.am staying put.
Danny is leaving too
The new pair replace both Danny Jones and Sir Tom, clearing two seats on the panel in one go.
The chair-shortage defence
One source told Metro that ITV love Sir Tom and are working hard behind the scenes. Another said the series simply needed a refresh.
“With Aitch and Cheryl coming on board and Kelly returning with will.i.am, there just wasn't a seat going”
Emma Willis is out as well
Stacey Solomon and Alesha Dixon are set to take over hosting after Willis landed a presenting role on Strictly Come Dancing.
The Stacey backlash
Some viewers aimed their anger at the new hosting line-up, questioning what Solomon knows about mentoring a singer and calling the shake-up a mockery.
“He's the only one who actually knows how to sing out of the judges.”
Already filming without him
Production on the new series started in Manchester on Friday and it is expected to air next year, with viewers vowing to switch off.
“ITV will regret sacking Tom Jones”
The one thing
ITV cut its most beloved coach right as he delivered the most-replayed moment of the series, and viewers noticed.
