Pumpkins get an art show

Autumn at the Arboretum returns September 19 with a theme called Harvest Hues, turning the Pumpkin Village into a tribute to modern and contemporary artists.
More than 100,000 gourds
Pumpkins, gourds and squash fill the garden through November 1. Six Pumpkin Houses rebuild famous artists' signature styles out of harvest material.
Mondrian blocks, a Bourgeois spider
One house recreates Mondrian's primary-color grid in pumpkins. A tall, spindly spider inspired by Louise Bourgeois perches on another, and a Pollock design uses mismatched gourds for that scattered energy.
“A Pollock-inspired design uses the varied shapes, sizes and colors of gourds”
