Attack ad uses divorce claims against Texas Rep. De La Cruz

House Majority PAC cites 2021 allegations, but court records show no final finding and ex-husband's later criminal case.

In brief

House Majority PAC cites 2021 allegations, but court records show no final finding and ex-husband's later criminal case. Political ads often cite allegations from divorce filings, but those claims are not the same as proven facts established in court. Originally reported by Dallas Express.

PAC targets De La Cruz

House Majority PAC launched ads against Rep. Monica De La Cruz using allegations from her 2021 divorce. The ads cite claims about her stepdaughter and a restraining order.

Three main allegations

The Democratic PAC's ads claim De La Cruz treated her stepdaughter cruelly, voted to protect sexual predators, and worked with someone whose husband faced abuse accusations.

Ex-husband made the claims

The phrase "cruel and aggressive" comes from allegations De La Cruz's former husband made during their divorce proceedings in October 2021.

No final court finding

Court records show no subsequent judicial finding that substantiated the allegations against De La Cruz. An allegation in a divorce filing isn't the same as a proven fact.

What restraining orders mean

Texas law allows judges to issue temporary restraining orders during divorce without notice to protect parties or property. They're not final determinations that allegations are true.

Ex-husband's criminal case

Juan Gabriel Hernandez was charged in 2024 with assaulting a woman by impeding breath and assaulting a peace officer. He got deferred adjudication on the second count.

Criminal case adds context

Hernandez's later criminal case doesn't prove his 2021 divorce allegations were false. But it provides context about the person whose claims appear in the political ad.

De La Cruz voted for transparency

De La Cruz voted for the Epstein Files Transparency Act in November 2025. The bill passed 427 to 1. The PAC didn't specify which vote it meant in its claim.

Professional association claim

The PAC says De La Cruz worked with a political operative whose husband was accused of abuse. The allegation concerns her professional relationship with the man's wife, not direct contact.

November election ahead

De La Cruz faces Democratic challenger Bobby Pulido in Texas's 15th Congressional District. The competing claims are now part of the campaign fight.

The essence

Political ads often cite allegations from divorce filings, but those claims are not the same as proven facts established in court.
