Two mornings in September

Two mornings in September

Texas Discovery Gardens holds its fall plant sale Saturday and Sunday, September 19 and 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day at Fair Park.

Members shop first

Membership buys a head start: a Friday preview on September 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. Bring your membership number, and renew online or at the sale.

Bring a list, botanical names

Organizers want shoppers writing lists with botanical names and checking the sale page for availability. Some varieties sell out or get pulled if they fail sale standards.

Pack your own cart

The gardens' carts are reserved for staff and volunteers hauling purchases out. Bring your own, plus trunk liners or cardboard so soil doesn't wreck your car.

Park free in Lot 8

Enter Fair Park at Gate 6, right on Second Avenue, left on Pennsylvania. Tell the attendant you're there for the sale and park free in Lot 8, across from the greenhouse.

Staff will help you choose

Staff and volunteers work the floor, answering questions and steering shoppers toward plants that actually fit their space and their goals. Plants are grouped, with a map to navigate.

Stay for the butterflies

The 7.5-acre organic grounds include specialty gardens, a two-story butterfly house and insectarium, garden trains and a playscape. Attractions open at 10 a.m. daily, tickets online or at the door.

The short version

Show up Saturday or Sunday morning with a botanical-name list, your own cart, and cardboard for the trunk.
