AG opens investigation into data center

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is investigating a proposed AI data center in Taylor, questioning whether it sits on land designated for public parkland decades ago.

“I will not allow any person or entity to disregard the rule of law or obligations owed to the public.”

Land was deeded for parkland in 1999

The Bland Family conveyed the property to the Texas Parks and Recreation Foundation in 1999 for ten dollars, with the requirement it be held in trust for future parkland use by Williamson County.

Ownership changed hands multiple times

The City of Taylor acquired the land in 2003 for ten dollars, then transferred it to the Taylor Economic Development Corporation in 2009. In April 2025, the TEDC sold it for ten million dollars to a Delaware entity tied to Blueprint Projects Data Centers.

Investigation will examine trust restrictions

Paxton's office will determine whether the trust and restrictions from the original 1999 deed were properly modified, released, or terminated under law.

Paxton threatens court action if unlawful

If the investigation finds the land remains subject to a charitable trust or restriction, Paxton said he intends to pursue court action to enforce those terms and hold violators accountable.

“If the Taylor data center development is unlawful, I will do everything in my power to stop it.”

City disputes deed restriction claim

Taylor's city records show the 1999 deed stated the property was to be held in trust for parkland, but the city argues this was not a formal deed restriction.

The essence

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is investigating whether a proposed AI data center in Taylor violates a decades-old trust that designated the land for public parkland.
