Two protesters face assault and road-blocking charges after a Dallas march, but nobody has proven who the masked men in the crowd actually were…
Two arrested near the arena

Dallas police arrested two people on Sept. 10 during an anti-Trump march near American Airlines Center, saying protesters assaulted a counter-protester and blocked a road.
From Pike Park to the perimeter
The march started at Pike Park and moved toward the arena, where Republicans had gathered for the RNC's midterm convention. It stopped at McKinnon and Payne, outside the security perimeter.
Who called the march
Promotional materials carried logos for Communist Party USA Dallas/Fort Worth and Freedom Road Socialist Organization Dallas. An Indivisible Dallas page told participants to stay nonviolent, de-escalate and carry no weapons.
Preachers get surrounded
Chris Svochak said he came with three others to preach before the march began. He says the crowd stopped and encircled them while they kept speaking.
“A lot of the people at the protest stopped what they were doing to surround us.”
Masked men, unproven label
Svochak said about five masked people turned physical, threw water and tried to force him to the ground, and he called them Antifa. No evidence backs that affiliation, and police have not tied either arrestee to the group.
The charges on paper
Jail records name Hunter Holmes, 23, and Adrian Garcia, 19. Holmes faces two assault counts plus obstructing a highway; Garcia faces assault, interference with public duties and obstruction. Bonds total $15,000 each.
Presumed innocent
The counts are accusations, not findings. Both men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty, and the alleged victim needed no medical treatment.
Two versions of the police
Organizer Rick Megumbar told CBS Texas the arrests were unjustified and claimed people on the right had pepper spray. Svochak thanked the department for protecting preachers.
“Thank you, Dallas Police Department, today for helping the rights of Christians and preachers.”
A campaign bus at the park
A bus with graphics for Democratic nominees Vikki Goodwin and Sarah Eckhardt sat beside demonstrators at Pike Park. Goodwin posted video of herself in the crowd with a NO KINGS sign; who arranged the bus is still unanswered.
