A line that never closes

The Suicide and Crisis Center of North Texas runs a 24-hour intervention line at 214-828-1000. Founded in 1968, it takes about 1,500 crisis calls a month.
One of fewer than 80
The Dallas center is certified by the American Association of Suicidology, a bar only a small number of centers nationwide clear.
Three digits, any hour
Anyone in emotional distress can call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or chat at 988lifeline.org. All three run 24 hours a day.
The system is strained
Texas's 988 network has dealt with staffing pressure and abandoned calls as volume climbs. Officials still point residents to 988 and local centers first.
Demand keeps climbing
Metrocare serves more than 50,800 people a year. Fort Worth's Telos Project saw 2,000 clients in 2025 and nearly 1,500 already this year.
Money worries, mental load
Telos staff point to job loss, insurance gaps and household costs as the pressures pushing more North Texas families toward care.
Giving Day does the funding
Mental-health nonprofits are raising operating money through North Texas Giving Day, ending September 17. Grant Halliburton is matching gifts dollar for dollar up to $75,000.
Show up in person
September 17 brings a teen-brain talk at the Center for BrainHealth. BRO CHILL meets September 16 in West Dallas, and Louder Than Stigma Fest hits the Kessler on September 19.
