The Owens sisters are back and No. 1 at the box office, but the couch date is still a guess. Theaters now, digital rental likely mid-October 2026, HBO Max probably late November or early December. Originally reported by Decider.
The sisters are back
Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return as Sally and Gillian Owens in Practical Magic 2, which opened nationwide this weekend and took the No. 1 spot at the box office.
28 years in the making
The original landed in 1998, adapted from Alice Hoffman's 1995 novel. Susanne Bier directs this one, built from Hoffman's 2021 follow-up, The Book of Magic.
A new generation of magic
Set 25 years later, Sally is now a mother to Kylie (Joey King) and Antonia (Maisie Williams), who stumble onto the family secret and their own powers.
Theaters only for now
As of release week it is a big-screen exclusive, opening Friday, September 11. No streaming option exists yet, so Fandango is your only route.
“Right now, Practical Magic 2 is only available to watch in a movie theater”
Digital around mid-October
Warner Bros. usually puts mid-budget titles on premium video on demand about a month after theaters. That points to a rental or purchase window near mid-October 2026.
HBO Max by early December
Every new WB theatrical release lands on HBO Max eventually. Supergirl took roughly two and a half months, which would put this one in late November or early December.
Halloween is the wild card
WB may want a witchy title streaming before October 31, which could pull the date forward. Until then, the 1998 original is on HBO Max, from $10.99 a month with ads.
“perhaps WB will want to get Practical Magic 2 on HBO Max in time for Halloween”
