How to give Alexa a new voice and an attitude
Amazon finally lets Alexa sound like eight different voices and act five different ways, including one that talks back.
In brief
Amazon finally lets Alexa sound like eight different voices and act five different ways, including one that talks back. Voice and personality are per-device settings, so changing them on one Echo does nothing to the rest of your house. Originally reported by Engadget.
Alexa can sound different now

Alexa+ and Prime members get eight voice types, depending on region, plus a handful of personality styles. It's cosmetic, not a brain upgrade.
“none of them make Alexa more or less accurate”
Changing the voice

Say "Alexa, change your voice" and it reads out the options. In the app: Devices, your device, Device Settings, Alexa's Voice.
Five personality styles
Brief keeps answers short. Chill is casual, Sweet is warm and encouraging, Sassy is witty, and Original is the Alexa you already know.
Sassy has a warning screen

Sassy carries an adults-only tap-to-continue gate. It isn't NSFW, but Alexa may mock your question and throw in a few colorful insults.
“Alexa may make fun of your question and use a few colorful pejoratives”
Set it on every Echo
Voice and personality apply only to the device you changed. Want the same Alexa in the kitchen and bedroom? Repeat the steps on each one.
What you can't do
Samuel L. Jackson, Melissa McCarthy and Shaq are gone. Animal voices need Amazon Kids+ and English, and the wake word is still a separate setting.
The one thing
Voice and personality are per-device settings, so changing them on one Echo does nothing to the rest of your house.
