Intel revives old socket for new chips
Intel is reportedly releasing new CPUs built on LGA 1700 sockets, according to motherboard manufacturer Gigabyte. The socket has been around since 2021.
DDR4 costs far less than DDR5 memory
A 32GB DDR4 kit costs around 210 dollars, but a 32GB DDR5 kit costs upwards of 480 dollars. LGA 1700 supports both memory types.
Intel confirms DDR4 will stay around

VP Robert Hallock said Raptor Lake chips would stick around for years to come. He stated LGA 1700 is still good and people want DDR4 support.
“LGA 1700 is still a good socket. Lots of people are still interested in DDR4, so we'll keep offering.”
The bottom line
Intel is reportedly releasing new CPUs on LGA 1700 sockets to support cheaper DDR4 memory as prices for DDR5 remain high.
