Lucid and Bolt launch European robotaxi push

The companies plan to deploy at least 25,000 autonomous vehicles across Europe, but a launch date remains unclear.

In brief

The companies plan to deploy at least 25,000 autonomous vehicles across Europe, but a launch date remains unclear. Lucid is expanding its robotaxi ambitions globally with partnerships in both Europe and the US, though timelines for deployment are still uncertain. Originally reported by Engadget.

Lucid and Bolt team up for Europe

Lucid is partnering with ridesharing company Bolt to deploy at least 25,000 autonomous vehicles across Europe. Bolt will own and operate the fleet based on Lucid's midsize platform.

Bigger ambitions by 2035

Bolt aims to have 100,000 autonomous vehicles on its platform by 2035, though the company hasn't announced when the Lucid robotaxis will actually start operating.

The robotaxi will use NVIDIA's Hyperion autonomous vehicle architecture and be designed for Level 4 automation, meaning it can drive itself within defined boundaries without human intervention.

Cheaper vehicles from midsize platform

Lucid showed off a two-seater robotaxi prototype earlier this year based on its midsize platform, designed to help the company produce cheaper vehicles than its current luxury models.

US partnerships with Uber and Nuro

Lucid also has robotaxi deals in the US. Uber plans to deploy 35,000 Lucid robotaxis, while Nuro is testing the Gravity robotaxi in Houston and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Delays and workforce cuts

Lucid delayed its Cosmos SUV, the first vehicle based on the midsize platform, to early 2027. The company laid off around 18 percent of its workforce a couple of months before announcing the delay.

In short

Lucid is expanding its robotaxi ambitions globally with partnerships in both Europe and the US, though timelines for deployment are still uncertain.
