Perplexity goes fully local
Perplexity now lets users run its entire Computer platform on their own Mac, following its September Hybrid Compute update that split workloads between cloud and local models.
What you need to run it
You need a recent Apple Silicon Mac with at least thirty six gigabytes of RAM to run the entire Computer experience, including the harness and orchestrator, locally.
Privacy and savings

Running locally keeps sensitive data off the cloud. You can access Notes and Mail to generate priority to-do lists without sending email data to the cloud or spending credits.
“This gives users more control over sensitive data and credit spend.”
Two models and fallback options
Users can choose Qwen three point six or PPLX Pro, a Perplexity fine-tuned version. If needed, the software can call on more than fifteen frontier models, with code execution in isolated sandboxes.
