Blizzard finally announced a new StarCraft at BlizzCon 2026, and then told fans to wait nearly four years.
In brief
Blizzard finally announced a new StarCraft at BlizzCon 2026, and then told fans to wait nearly four years. StarCraft 3 is real and it's a shooter, but spring 2030 is far enough out that anything could still change. Originally reported by Engadget.
The shooter is real

At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard showed a cinematic trailer for a game called simply StarCraft, pitched as a story-driven open-world shooter.

Nine years of silence
The last StarCraft release was the 2017 remaster of the original. StarCraft 2 shipped 16 years ago.
About damn time

Blizzard's own line for the announcement acknowledged how long fans have waited for a new entry in the series.

Spring 2030
The catch is the date. Blizzard says the game arrives in spring 2030, almost four years after the reveal.
A graveyard of prototypes
Several StarCraft shooters have been rumored over the years and died in development. The most recent one surfaced in 2024.
Officially coming
A lot can change before 2030, but for now StarCraft 3 has a name, a genre, and a release window.

The short version
StarCraft 3 is real and it's a shooter, but spring 2030 is far enough out that anything could still change.
