Tesla's Roadster finally gets a date
Nine years after the prototype, Tesla says the second-gen Roadster arrives October 10.
In brief
Nine years after the prototype, Tesla says the second-gen Roadster arrives October 10. Tesla has set an October 10 reveal for the Roadster, but the 2017 promises, including a flying version, are still unproven. Originally reported by Engadget.
A date, at last

Tesla posted on X that the second-gen all-electric Roadster will debut on October 10, the first firm reveal date after years of slipping timelines.
“It's been delay after delay”
Why this one might stick
The Information reported in August that a launch was close, and Tesla's own site now runs a countdown clock to the reveal.
The flying car tease

The countdown image hints at cold-gas thrusters, part of the SpaceX package that is supposed to let the car fly. How that works is anyone's guess.
Or it could be Wade Mode
Tesla has shipped novelty features before. The flight trick may land closer to the Cybertruck's Wade Mode than to anything genuinely useful.
The 2017 numbers
At the prototype reveal Tesla promised 0 to 60 in under two seconds, a top speed above 250 mph, and more than 600 miles of range.
Buyers walked away
The base car was $200,000 and the Founder's Edition $250,000. Some $50,000 reservation holders quit, including Sam Altman and Marques Brownlee.
What matters most
Tesla has set an October 10 reveal for the Roadster, but the 2017 promises, including a flying version, are still unproven.
